Northern dressed business had a full range of $296 to $304, mostly $296, fully steady with the prior week's weighted averages. Southern live deals had a range of $185 to $189.50, mostly $188, $1 higher than the previous week's weighted averages. According to Thursday's Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle Negotiated Purchase Summary reports, weekly accumulated totals were as follows, (the prior week's weighted averages are listed in parentheses). KS $187.91($186.73); NE $296.00($295.98); TX $187.84($186.95); IA $296.84($295.93); CO not available due to confidentiality. The Friday Afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle report lists week-to-date trade volume totals as: KS 6,907; NE 19,168; TX 4,394, IA 24,029; CO NA due to confidentiality. Friday's slaughter totaled 106,000 head, even with the prior week, but 11,000 below a year ago. Saturday's kill was estimated at 14,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 608,000 head, 22,000 more than the previous week, but down 29,000 from 2023. The weekly average for boxed beef cutouts and boxed beef cuts: choice $317.84(+9.41), select $292.26(+3.05), with an average choice select spread of $25.58 (+6.36), and a total load count including cuts, trimmings, and grinds of 637(-21), (Changes from the prior week are listed in parentheses). For the week ending October 12, 2024, Imported Beef Passed for Entry in the U.S. totaled 53,213, 119.84% of the previous week and 107.76% of the 4-week average. DTN MORNING COMMENTS: It looks to be a typically quiet Monday as both packers and producers are busy preparing for the week ahead. Significant trade volume will likely be delayed until the second half of the week. Beef cutouts are expected to be higher, with generally light box movement.
