Tractor, Combine Sales Down Again

A setback. A rough patch. A blow.

However you describe it, the year 2024 in tractor and combine sales flashed red on the balance sheets of every equipment manufacturer. Every one of them -- Deere, AGCO, CNH, the rest -- all report poor sales for 2024.

In its newest, and last, report for 2024, the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), reports sharp decreases in sales of tractors and combines. For both December 2024 and all of 2024. AEM publishes monthly reports summarizing tractor and combine sales.

For all of 2024, two-wheel drive tractor sales are off 13.4% and four-wheel drive sales are off 4.5%. Sales of 100-plus-hp tractors are off 17.5% for the year.

Combines? The story is no better. Combine sales for all of 2024 are down 24.3%.

December did nothing to sand off the sharp edges of what became a difficult year for manufacturers.

Sales of 100-plus-hp tractors in December were off 26.6% compared to sales recorded in December 2023. Two-wheel drive tractor sales, including 100-plus-hp tractors in December were down 10.9%.

Sales of four-wheel drive tractors in December, compared to December 2023, were down 27.5%.

And the combine December sales were down 26.4% compared to combine sales in December 2023.
